Full Bio

Called "a master storyteller" by Kirkus Reviews, Chantel Acevedo is the author of the novels  Love and Ghost Letters (St. Martin's Press),  A Falling Star (Carolina Wren Press), The Distant Marvels (Europa Editions), which was a finalist for the 2016 Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and The Living Infinite (Europa Editions), hailed by Booklist as a "vivid and enthralling tale of love and redemption." CAGES , a new novel is forthcoming from Europa Editions in 2026.  Acevedo's middle grade duology Muse Squad  (Balzer +Bray) was called "Riveting and suspenseful" by School Library Journal. The Curse on Spectacle Key (Balzer + Bray), a lightly spooky story set in the Florida Keys, was a 2023-2024 SSYRA Award nominee and winner of the Rhode Island Latino Book Award.  NO WAY NEVER SISTERS (Aladdin) is her first co-authored novel. Acevedo is a Professor of English & Creative Writing at the University of Miami.

Short Bio for Kids' Events

Chantel Acevedo writes novels for kids and adults alike. Her Muse Squad duology and The Curse on Spectacle Key are Florida-set adventures inspired by her love of history and the importance of friendship. No Way Never Sisters is her first co-authored book. Chantel's novels have appeared on several state educator and librarian lists, and she loves meeting young readers at schools across the country! When she's not crafting stories, she's inspiring emerging writers as a Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Miami.
